A 1% earned income tax is imposed on the wages and net profits of township residents, and on the wages and net profits of non-residents who work or do business in the township.  Half of the money goes to the township and the other half goes to the Bellwood-Antis School District.

About

Earned Income means salaries, wages, commissions, bonuses, incentive payments, fees, tips, and any other compensation received for services rendered. Not included are:

  • wages of active military personnel,
  • disability and sick pay,
  • worker’s compensation pay,
  • pensions,
  • public assistance pay,
  • unemployment compensation, and
  • Social Security payments.

Net Profits means net income from the operation of a business, profession, or other activity, except corporations, after provision for all costs and expenses except income taxes.

The Earned Income Tax is unique in that it is taken out of wages where you work, yet it is owed where you live.

The earned income tax is a tax levied as a percent of earned income. The Local Tax Enabling Act requires every employer having a factory, workshop, branch, warehouse or other place of business within the taxing jurisdiction to register with the earned income tax officer of that district. All employers with work sites within the taxing jurisdiction are required by law to deduct the earned income tax from their employees at that site if the tax is listed in the Local Tax Register.

Act 32 of 2008, which became effective Jan 1, 2012 reformed the local earned income tax withholding system and established countywide tax collection districts for the remittance and distribution of local earned income taxes.

Every business that employs individuals at worksites within Pennsylvania, or employs individuals who work from their home in Pennsylvania, is required to withhold the applicable local earned income tax amount from employees’ wages and remit the tax to the appropriate tax office.

The Blair County Tax Collection Bureau is the designated collector for the Blair County Taxing District.
